Community Broadband Initiative
June 13, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 2:30 pm
Want the opportunity to connect to high-speed Internet affordably, easily and securely all across the Flathead Valley?
Do you believe the Flathead Valley could benefit from more economical, higher-capacity broadband services?
Join MWED and the Northwest Montana Association of Realtors MLS for this important workshop. Lunch will be provided and registration is recommended.
Better broadband access is a top concern throughout the communities that make up the Flathead Valley. Access to reliable, high-speed internet increases a wide range of services and products that have an effect on modern life: faster response time for emergency responders and public safety announcements; increased opportunities for economic development, education and entertainment; remote medical care and employment for the rural population; and provides the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently on a global scale. Our lives and livelihood literally depend on staying connected.
To lay the groundwork needed to bring bring better technological advances to the Flathead Valley, Montana West Economic Development and Northwest Montana Association of Realtors MLS will be holding a workshop to launch a Community Broadband Initiative on Wednesday, June 13th at FVCC. This important event will organize community conversations about options to address the well-documented gap in crucial infrastructure for new technology and broadband access as demonstrated in the 2017 CEDS Community Access process. The workshop will be designed to educate key players and the community at large about new public and private initiative and finance tools available throughout the country to maximize opportunity in the Valley. Break-out sessions and discussion will be facilitated with follow-up measures to create a foundation for individual communities to organize and move forward with their own plans for better broadband implementation. We strongly urge you to attend and offer input.
