BROWNFIELDS
In 2023 the United States Environmental Protection Agency selected Montana West Economic Development to receive a $500,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant. This grant was used to fund assessment of Brownfields sites throughout Flathead County, identifying contaminated industrial and commercial properties that may be cleaned up and returned to productive reuse and redevelopment.
Thank you for your interest in our Brownfields program. At this time, MWED’s brownfields assessment grant funding has been fully allocated.
What is a Brownfield?
A “brownfield” is a property that has been, or may have, a potential presence of hazardous substances, petroleum, or regulated building materials that may impede redevelopment opportunities. Example properties include abandoned gas stations, underused industrial or commercial properties, buildings where lead-based paint or asbestos are concerns, meth-impacted buildings, and vehicle/equipment maintenance facilities.
