Flathead County is one of the fastest growing areas in the State of Montana and the Rocky Mountain West with an estimated population of 87,816 people in 2008, an increase of 17.9% since 2000 It is home to three of the fastest growing cities in Montana; Whitefish, Kalispell and Columbia Falls.
Even with this incredible growth the number of people/ square mile is only 17. The median age is 39 years old. While the population is 95% Caucasian, each year the area becomes more diversified with a variety of nationalities and ethnicities represented.
